Types Of Leukemia page covers the causes, signs, symptoms and treatment, along with what you can do to fight this cancer.

Types Of Leukemia

Signs And Symptoms of Leukemia:

Symptoms include fever, trouble breathing, easy bruising or bleeding, flat, pinpoint red spots under skin, weakness, fatigue, loss of appetite and weight loss.  In addition to the above, childhood Leukemia signs and symptoms include bone or joint pain, painless lumps in throat, underarms, groin or stomach, pain below the ribs, or feeling of fullness below the ribs.

Types Of Leukemia:

Leukemia is a cancer in the bone marrow (where blood is manufactured).  Leukemia is not to be confused with blood cancer or bone cancer.

There are many types and subtypes of Leukemia.  We're not going to exhaust you with those details.  Instead, we'll cover the general information.  If you or your child gets diagnosed with Leukemia, get the exact type and subtype in writing from your doctor and research the National Cancer Institute and other websites to learn all you can about treatment options and procedures.

Causes of Leukemia:

While no specific cause has been established, factors that increase the risk of Leukemia are male gender, smoking, past chemo or radiation therapy, exposure to certain chemicals, previous blood disorder or weakened immune system due to illness, medications, surgery or poor nutrition.  In addition to the above, risk factors for childhood Leukemia include white or Hispanic, a brother or sister with Leukemia, living in the US, high exposure to radiation.

Treatment of Leukemia:

Usually, adult Leukemia therapy includes 2 phases.  The first phase is to kill the cancer cells, usually using chemotherapy, radiation therapy or transplant of healthy stem cells from a donor.  Which treatment is used depends on the type and subtype of Leukemia.  Treatment for the second phase is to maintain "remission" and usually includes regular monitoring and chemotherapy.  There is no standard treatment for Leukemia if it returns, but usually some form of chemotherapy is used to try to slow the progression of the disease and limit the discomfort.

Childhood Leukemia usually include 3 phases;  Kill the cancer cells, Kill any cells remaining or regrowing, Maintain remission.  This treatment should be conducted by a team of  medical specialists (about 12 specialties) experienced in fighting childhood Leukemia.  Because of the many options and complex circumstances, you need to be meeting and working with these doctors to map out exactly the right therapies.

What You Can Do About Leukemia:

If you've been diagnosed with a malignant Cancer, always retest and get a second opinion from another doctor.  Once confirmed, work with your doctor to make sure nothing you do interferes with the medical treatment.  Get the specific diagnosis in writing, including the name and stage of the Cancer.  Search the National Cancer Institute and other websites to learn all that's being done for your cancer.  Print relevant pages and make a list of specific questions for your doctor.  Write down his answers and check them on the web. I know the doctor has a good education, but this is your health and your life.  The actions to help prevent Cancer below can often be used in stronger doses to fight cancer, but check with your doctor.

To help prevent Cancer:  If your family or lifestyle (see causes, above) puts you at a higher risk, you should consider these things essential to help prevent Cancer:  Follow a low fat diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.  Fill your life with aerobic activity and exercise.  Make sure you're drinking enough water.  Supplement your diet with natural Multi-Vitamins and Multi-Minerals, along with extra doses of the following to strengthen your immune system:

Complete Healing:

Cancer is at best frightening, frustrating and painful...at worst, fatal.  We both know there are no guaranteed cures or quick fixes, whether medicine, nutrition, herbs or anything else.  Many illnesses are "incurable" from the medical standpoint.  Complete healing is possible...including mind, body and spirit...from God.  If you want God's help with this or any problem, go to Healing From God.
