Health Benefits Of Fiber:

There are so many benefits from fiber, it should be listed as a nutrient.  The carbohydrates in fiber are nutrients, but it's the function of fiber that provides the real value.  Fiber is essential for digestive health.  What you digest ends up in your blood, and is delivered to every cell in your body.  Your digestion is the beginning of your body's health...or illness.  Fiber is the crucial element that determines how well your digestion works to process the good stuff and eliminate the bad.

The benefits of a high fiber diet include help preventing and controlling atherosclerosis, cancer, diabetes colitis, constipation, cirrhosis, and other major diseases.  Fiber strengthens your immune system by removing many toxins and viruses, resulting in slower aging and fewer infections, even from the from the common cold and flu.  As an added benefit fiber is an essential part of any weight loss diet

So, you can see, fiber really isn't an option.  To remain healthy, you need 20-40 grams of fiber each day, along with drinking enough water.  Usually, you'll know you had enough fiber (yesterday) if your bowel movements are regular, quick, unstrained and well-formed to soft.  Usually, you'll know if you've had too much fiber if the bowel movement is mushy or watery, like diarrhea.

Other Sources Of Natural Fiber:

For daily use, natural fiber is far better and safer than chemical laxatives.  Lately, some companies have been marketing chemicals as fiber.  Always make sure the fiber product lists the source of the dietary fiber.  For instance, Metamucil lists 100% natural psyllium fiber on it's label.  There are many varieties of natural fiber supplements in powder, tablet, capsule and cookie form.  Just make sure to have them with water.  If you visit the various nutrition sites advertising here, search them for "psyllium husk".  You can often get bulk products that are just as useful as the name brand powders at a fraction of the cost.
