Sciatica Symptoms Remedies

Causes Of Sciatica:

Sciatica is the term for pain that runs from the lower back down the legs...along the sciatic nerve.  The pain can be mild or can keep you from standing or walking.  This condition can be caused by damage to the sciatic nerve, slipped disk, osteoarthritis and infections. 

Signs And Symptoms Of Sciatica:

Symptoms include pain radiating from lower back down back of leg,  sometimes accompanied by tingling and numbness.  The pain can vary in location from spine to calf and feet and in intensity from mild, dull to sharp, burning and extreme discomfort.  Though rare, if loss of bowel or bladder control accompanies Sciatica pain, seek emergency medical help. 

Treatment Of Sciatica:

The most effective Sciatica treatments are things you can do at home (see below).  If your Sciatica is very severe your doctor may prescribe pain and inflammation medicines, steroid injections or surgery to try to relieve the symptoms

What You Can Do About Sciatica:

A cold pack or alternating cold/heat to lower spine can reduce inflammation and pain.  Aspirin or Ibuprophen can help with the pain and inflammation.  Stretching sometimes eases the pain.  Regular low shock exercise (walking, rowing, bicycle) though painful at first, produces long term relief by strengthening lower back muscles and reducing the stress on the Sciatic nerve.  Also, lose any excess weight to reduce back stress.  To help fight Sciatica, you can supplement your diet with natural Multi-Vitamins and Multi-Minerals, along with extra doses of the following:

Antioxidants; including Beta Carotene, Flavonoids, Vitamin A, Zinc, Vitamin E, Vitamin C and CoQ10.
Lipoic Acid; at least 200 mg divided into 2-3 doses per day.
Organic Germanium; 300-450mg divided into 3 doses a day.
Fiber; 12-15 grams extra from vegetable sources or supplements.
Garlic; 3 cloves per day.
Drinking Clean Water; 2-3 quarts daily.
Calcium
Magnesium
